i got it.

and dang it, it was right in front of me the whole time!

saw it here, lovekiko, and i have to say it is an amazing idea. i love pictures, i love ideas, i love keeping things, im going crazy thinking about concepts for an altered book i want to make, i have so many art stuff lying around, i write lists like crazy about the things i want to do, i love cutting pictures, i love keeping pictures of things i want to have, i love colors, i love patterns, i love journals, i love art, and simply put, i just love it.

i have always wanted to make an idea book, sort of a sketch book - but i can't draw for the life of me - and i don't know where to put my increasing number of collections of things-i-want-to-scrap-about/make-into-a-card/journal-about.

and now i do.

must... get... an... old... book...................... (running to get old book)

*this blogger/crafter will be back in a few to post pictures. yey!

nanay venus

my love for crafting started with nanay, my grandmother from my mother's side. first, it was embroidery, she taught me the fine art of applying thread to fabric and coming up with art. it was magic. i was hooked. at first i could only manage stick people and outlines of flowers and running stitches, eventually i moved on to names and leaves and flowers that are filled in with colors and intricate borders.

and then i moved on to crocheting. this sealed the deal for me, at this point i knew i was going to be a crafter forever. not only was i designing things, i was making them - scarves, bags, baby shoes, wallets, tops, pencil cases, pouches, table runners, doilies - the possibility was endless! it was also the first time i actually sold my wares. i would make crocheted wallets and let my sisters sell them to their classmates. it was a hit!

from here i moved on to sewing, mostly just aprons and a house dress - all hand sewn and for a school project (with perfect grades no less).

and then cross stitching, which i never really got into. the cross stitching bug was so big at the time i was starting that everything was a competition with everyone - the perfect knots, the perfect pattern, the perfect layout when you turn it over, the fastest time on a project - i didn't get what all the competition was about. and i guess that turned me off cross stitching forever.

i also tried tatting - the art of lace making, which nanay also taught me. but this i never got. never. as in ever. ever ever.

after this is a list of crafts i have dabbled into, some i tried only once, and some i fell in love with completely. i just wish i had pictures of everything i had made, unfortunately half my crafts were borne before the digital camera era. and now all i have of them are memories (sigh).

anyway, this crafts blog is dedicated to nanay and the wonderful world she has opened up for me when she first taught me how to hold a needle and pass it through fabric... even if she was the one who also told me i would never be able to sew.
